Euro Furniture

Euro Furniture is the premium importer with extensive selection of prestigious high end designer brands from Europe. They are an authorized dealer for some of the most prestigious brands from Europe. Thanks to WordPress.com, Noppadol Chaisiri (Managing Director of Euro Furniture) found my portfolio through my previous post on design process for Buenos.com.my. I quickly rang him up to arrange our first meeting.
This is my second post on website design process. You are welcome to leave comments on any of my posts.

The Competitors
Some times, my clients would like to differentiate themselves from their direct competitors. Some times they also imitates the good ones. It goes the same with Euro Furniture. “I want something like this, but better!”, urged Noppadol while pointing to his competitors’ websites.
Xtra Singapore:

Space Furniture:

The Associates:
Euro Furniture is currently promoting some of it’s featured brands. And these brands inspired me a lot during the entire design process.
Design Process
For portfolio presentation websites, I usually start off with deciding what is the best screen resolution to fit my design. W3Counter.com‘s latest global web stats shows 1024×768 is still widely in use. I counter checked with Google Analytics which I signed up earlier for my personal web stats, it also proved that 1024×768 screen resolution is still major in use, followed by 1280×800 (mostly used in notebook computers).
With this figures, I decided to load up the Flash presentation with 900×600 in size.
Some Questionnaires:

Every first meet up with a fresh client I often throw them some questionnaires to fill up my design interest. These are some questions that I’ll definately ask:
1. What’s the name of the company?
2. What’s the name/title for the intended project?
3. Describe the company in brief/detail.
4. Describe the concept/product/service the site will provide.
5. Main contact person and their roles.
6. When is the right date to launch the project and why?
7. What is the budget like? (This is really important! It will be a lot more easier if they could provide me with the figures).
8. What is the reason commissioning a new or to rebuild the website?
9. If they have a current site, what aspects from it that works well and why? And what’s fail and why?
10. Describe the type of targeted visitors.
11. Describe their competitors and their web addresses.
12. What features to follow and what not to follow from their competitors’ site?
I’m currently designing a client work-sheet to help runs this questionnaires in a smoother manner. Once this is up, I will load it here.
Sitemap 1.0

This is a simple navigation layout.
The Unused Demos (Logo Introduction):

The Unused Demos (Navigation Introduction):

The Unused Demos (About page):

The initial design were presented with some floral ornaments on the edges of some frames. Noppadol does not like the flower arrangement, “It looks so feminine, right?”.
The Unused Demos (Products Page):

I then took out the ornaments and detailed the design with large backgrounds that randomly rotates every 30 seconds, added horizontal rules under every headers, applied thin frame on every images, and added a background music taken from TemplateWise.com Free Music Loops.
